BATTERY CONSTRUCTION BEGINS
We are ready to commence construction of Culcairn Battery, our second storage asset in the NSW & ACT region.
Neoen has given notice-to-proceed to NHOA Energy and a joint venture between Equans Solar & Storage and Bouygues Construction Australia. We have previously worked with all of them — we first worked with NHOA to build our Blyth Battery in South Australia, while the teams at Bouygues and Equans have jointly supported us in constructing the Culcairn Solar Farm.
Culcairn battery will comprise of 160 battery units and 64 inverters, with an installed capacity of 215 MW / 963 MWh. This will allow us to further support grid-reliability and stability in the National Electricity Market and help NSW to implement its Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.
The battery will be installed ‘behind-the-meter’ at our existing solar farm, a first for Neoen in Australia. This means that both assets will share their connection into the electricity grid, rather than needing separate connections.
Construction is expected to be over an 18-month period with operations targeted for 2028. We will host a local employment session soon to discuss opportunities for local jobseekers and suppliers. Updates will be shared here and from our project newsletter in the coming days.
