Battery Update
In January 2026, the capacity of our proposed big battery was further increased to 963 MWh from the earlier size of 904 MWh. This was due to higher energy densities per battery unit. This new capacity will allow us to store energy for longer duration and further support grid-reliability and stability in the electricity market.
This is still in line with our other project parameters and in accordance with the development modification from December 2024. Please refer to this link to read the Planning Secretary’s decision.
Please note, the approved footprint of the battery still is approximately 4 hectares and is located at the centre of our existing Culcairn Solar Farm project site, adjacent to Transgrid’s switching station.
We are currently undertaking a procurement process to select a battery supplier (who will also act as an Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor), and aiming start of construction in mid-2026.
Construction of a big battery involves significantly less works than for a solar farm and typically takes 24 months. We expect around 160 workers at site during the peak construction period. More updates will be shared soon.
